Highland Games Schedule for 2008
New Events or other activities up for possible participation:
  • August 22, 2009 - Marine Memorial Color Guard
This is a memorial service for the 34 Marines who perished in 1946 when the plane they were being transported in crashed into Mt. Ranier. The original site of the crash is now blocked, so a replica of the plaque and rock was brought to Enumclaw and this memorial service is held each year.
  • The next Lake Fair Parade is July 18, 2009
(the weekend before the Enumclaw Games).  It starts at 1530 hours.
We need at least four members to carry flags.
The Color Guard will precede the Olympia Highlanders Pipe Band in the 1.6 mile parade. The parade route is along Capitol Way in Olympia, starting approximately 3/4 mile South of the Capitol Building ending in downtown Olympia.   The entire route is straight and downhill.
Click on the "Lakefair Parade" link above to view more information, and also to see the map of the parade route.

Directions to staging area. If you have questions, the participants from previous years can provide most (if not all) answers:

Note: This parade is fairly easy.  There is one turn at the end of the route  The Pipe Band will stop at several points along the route play a tune and then continue.   In past parades, we were made very welcome; the people along the route were very happy to see us.

(Rumor has it that everyone who attends is elegible for the Timothy Lally award).

One down and four to go!

We had a good showing at the Bellingham games.

We conducted the wreath laying ceremony, at the Viet Nam memorial, on both days as in the past.

On the Saturday Skye Richendrfer, Chieftain of the Games, placed the wreath escorted by Bob Parrish and Jim Ellrod.

On both days we presented service flags at the head of the parade of clans. Again, as in previous years, we were asked to augment the Color Guard for the opening ceremonies on Sunday,.thanks Bob.

On Saturday I presented Tim Lally with a plaque, on behalf of the SAMS National Commander, for his services to SAMS over the years and as National Commander. Well done Tim..

I have tickets for the Tacoma and Mount Vernon games. At Tacoma I will have them at the main entrance for those of you who are participating in the CG to pick up. I will pass out the Mount Vernon tickets at Tacoma.

If you are going to attend the ceremony at the Marine Corps Rock on August 29th. please contact Tim Cooke at or before the Tacoma games. This event gives us another chance to honor those who served our Country and for SAMS to be seen in public supporting our troops.

See you at the games.

Peter.
